String Ensemble of the Henryk Wieniawski Secondary General Music School in the Music School Complex in Poznań

The ensemble consists of students and graduates of the Poznań School of Talent in the Music School Complex in Poznań. They include laureates of top prizes in national and international competitions.

The Henryk Wieniawski Secondary General Music School was established in 1990 as part of the Music School Complex in Poznań (open since 1978). The school teaches students with exceptional talent or children who display music talent at an early age. The school prepares its students for post-secondary musical education and for independent artistic activity. It also provides a general education at the junior high-school and secondary school level. It is the only school of its kind in western Poland, promoting original ideas for education which has evolved from experiments to an effective system of nurturing musical talents (hence its common name: the “Poznań Talent School”). The school currently teaches 52 student, including 28 from outside of Poznań. Due to the nature of their education, students of the Poznań School of Talents frequently participate in (and win) in competitions, even though competition rivalry is not the ultimate aim of their musical education, but only one of its important components. In its brief, 20-year history, the school’s students have performed more than 750 times in national-level competitions (with more than 450 laureates) and in international competitions (ca. 100 laureates). Practically all graduates continue their artistic education in music academies in Poland, and also in European and American schools. The school’s most distinguished graduates include pianists Jacek Kortus, Joanna Marcinkowska, Małgorzata Sajna, Piotr Żukowski, guitarists Łukasz Kuropaczewski and Krzysztof Meissinger and violinists Michał Bryła, Jakub Haufa, Jarosław Nadrzycki, Bartłomiej Nizioł and Anna Maria Staśkiewicz.
