Young Cracow Philharmonic – The Symphony Orchestra of the Mieczysław Karłowicz State Music School Complex in Cracow

The orchestra’s members are students of the secondary music school, completing an experimental programme of work in the orchestra intended to prepare them for careers in professional orchestras immediately following the completion of the secondary music school.

In 1982-1998 the orchestra was directed by Rafał Jacek Delekta. In 1989 Ewa Mizerska-Golonek became the orchestra’s second conductor. Tomasz Chmiel became the orchestra’s director in the year 2000. The ensemble’s repertoire is quite varied, encompassing many periods, from the baroque to contemporary music, as well as operatic, operetta and film music, as well as musicals.

The Cracow Young Philharmonic appears frequently and regularly in Cracow, performing in the concert hall of the Cracow Philharmonic, as well as in many other cities in Poland – at the Roma Music Theatre in Warsaw, in the Lecture Hall of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, in the Upper Silesian Centre of Culture in Katowice and in the concert hall of the Częstochowa Philharmonic and in Europe. The orchestra plays approximately 20 concerts each season. It has played together with many renowned soloists, including Konstanty Andrzej Kulka, Grażyna Brodzińska, Jacek Wójcicki, Elżbieta Towarnicka, Lidia Jazgar, Jacek Muzyk, Katarzyna Oleś-Blacha, Tomasz Kuk, Halina Młynkowa and Jacek Zieliński. The orchestra is involved in collaboration projects with several youth orchestras (in Switzerland and Germany) and choirs (in the Netherlands). The orchestra played in the world premiere performance of Nieszpory Ludźmierskie [Ludźmierz Vespers] composed by Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz and Leszek Aleksander Moczulski. The orchestra has also played the work at the concert celebrating the 10^th anniversary of its premiere in September of 2003.
