LA FOLLE JOURNEE DE VARSOVIE

Affeltowicz graduated from the Music Academy in Warsaw in 1980 in the class of French horn. In 1984 he received his diploma in conducting in the class of Professor Stanisław Wisłocki. He took part twice in the Young Musicians’ Festival at Bayreuth and in 1991 he refined his skills at Tanglewood master classes with S. Ozawa, G.Meyer and L. Fleischer.

In 1980-84 he worked as an instrumentalist in the Warsaw Chamber Opera and in 1984-87 he was conductor’s assistant at the Grand Theatre-National Opera in Warsaw. As conductor of the Silesian Opera for the next five years, he performed as guest in many opera theatres in Poland and abroad (including Halle and Lviv). He is currently the guest conductor in Das Sinfonie Orchester Berlin – an orchestra with which he has been appearing regularly at the Berlin Philharmonie.

Andrzej Affeltowicz has also worked together with various Polish orchestras, including the National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, the National Philharmonic, the Cracow Philharmonic, the Poznań Philharmonic, the Silesian Philharmonic, as well as orchestras in Łódź, Szczecin and Rzeszów. He has also conducted in Denmark, Austria, Germany and England.

He has directed the Polish Youth Symphony Orchestra since 1988.
