Tatjana Vassiljeva / cello

Tatiana Vassilieva has studied the cello with Evgeni Nilov. In 1994 she received the 2nd prize at the International ARD Competition in Munich. She then went on to study with Walter Nothas, and afterwards to refine her skills in Berlin under the tutelage of David Geringas. She gained international recognition after winning the Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris at the Rostropovich Competition in 2001 and the “Victoire de la Musique classique” award in 2005. Today, Tatiana Vassilieva is considered one of the greatest cellists of her generation, performing with many prestigious orchestras, including the Moscow Soloists, the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France and the Berlin Philharmonic. She has performed with many renowned conductors, including Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Spivakov, Christoph Eschenbach and Vasili Sinaiski.

A talented chamber musician, Tatiana Vassilieva has played at many international festivals, including Lockenhaus, Colmar, La Grange de Meslay and Verbier, playing with many famous artists, including Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Antoine Tamestit, Gautier Capuçon and Paul Badura-Skoda, with whom she has played the complete set of Beethoven’s sonatas for cello and piano.

Her latest recordings include the critically acclaimed album with works for solo cello by Kodály, Ysaÿe, Cherepnin and Cassado, Penderecki’s 2nd Cello Concerto recorded with Antoni Wit and the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw, Bach’s complete suites for cello solo released on the Mirare label and works for cello and piano by Alkan and Chopin, recorded for the same series with Jean-Frédéric Neuburger.
