Born in Toulouse, Bertrand Chamayou has recently become an important figure on the French music scene. Noticed very early by Jean-François Heisser, who became his professor at the Paris CNSMD, he later studied with Maria Curcio in London and with Murray Perahia, who gave Chamayou valuable guidance. Nominated for “Artist of the Year” in the ranking of Victoires de la Musique in 2010. He has performed together with such conductors as Y. Sado, S. Bychkov, M. Plasson and L. Foster, playing with renowned orchestras, including the Orchestre de Paris, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre National du Capitole. Invited to perform at major international concert stages, such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Herkulessaal in Munich and Tokyo International Forum, Chamayou has also played at festivals, including La Roque d’Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins and Le French May in Hongkong. An admirer of contemporary music, he worked together with such legendary composers as Henri Dutilleux and György Kurtág. During the Présences festival Chamayou played concertos by T. Adès and Esa-Pekka Salonen. His chamber music activities entail regular performances with R. Capuçon, D. Kashimoto, A. Tamestit, N. Baldeyrou and the Belcea, Ébène and Ysaÿe string quartets. After signing an exclusive contract with the Naïve label, in 2008 Bertrand Chamayou recorded a recital of works by Mendelssohn (honoured with many prizes) and then, in 2010, a record devoted to works by César Franck with the accompaniment of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. This recording was the “Editor’s Choice” of Gramophone magazine.
